[Note: A very unconventional scouting report.]  … a,

‘ Zen Basketball Scouting Report.’

  A free flow hoops report.

Written By:  Doctor Cricket Dunkenstein (a.k.a. Mr. Fat Hat)

  1. I think Spurs Head Coach Mitchell Johnson ‘hit the nail in the head’ regarding the required changes to enable the Spurs to win game 2, tomorrow night. (35 hours forward) .  … Coach stated this in his post game 1 interview, immediately after the game.   Mic Drop!  I got (*) nothing to add to what he Coach Mitchell Johnson already stated. … statement below.
  2. Quote: “WE MUST PLAY INSIDE OUT AND NOT PLAY OUTSIDE IN”!
  3. I do not know how the Spurs do that, unfortunately.
  4. Important  Fact:  The score was 94-94 with two – three minutes remaining in the game?  Correct? not sure … .   The final score was 105 to 95.  That sums it up.
  5. Lots of positive points can be taken from the Spurs performance.  GREAT individual and team DEFENSE overall.  Dylan Harper, excellent offense – good game. Everybody played hard … the team just didn’t ‘cut the cake’ at the correct time.
  6. Last critical point:  I wish Victor Wembanyama could – (could have last night, hung), hang onto the basketball as well as he shoots free throws.  I wish Victor had a post catch, a power dribble, in the low post, and a JUMP HOOK move.  Just one, maybe two, that’s my  wish list for game 2 … easy.
  7. I do NOT have any original self reflective possible answers or solutions.  I’would say, Play Ball, let us toss it up again,  Question: Did you (Spurs loose the opening tip?  Yes, win the tip, tiny detail.        … again,  PLAT BALL.  Just like last night, only better!  PLAY BALL!

I did think, Shaq, Kenny and Charles had very interesting things to say after the game.  The three TV ‘Stooges’ ,( I enjoy jabbing these three gentlemen,  a.k.a. Shaq, Kenny, & Chuck by calling them the 3 stooges),  They are all actually very bright basketball minds, with lots of NBA Finals experience, all former NBA Finals players.  … … .  They have some ‘Hoops Savvy’.

They were good last night, after the game.  They can see basketball … … sometimes better than floor coaches, when they attend games live, not so good in the TV studio,  they might have an idea for Spurs coaches, I don’t have any good ideas …,

… sometimes, somethings ,  can be observed from the upper seats better than at a floor view, of course, both have their drawbacks … yes,  benefits too, but a different view from up top can help to see things one can not always see at floor view.  The 3 Stooges were up top during game 1 of the finals.

The New York Kickerbockers NBA basketball team just ax,  (ask),  (pronounced ‘aks’ if your are a New Yorker), the San Antonio Spurs a very important question after their 105 to 95 victory in game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals game 1st win: How do you like ‘dem apples?

The strong and talented Knicks demonstrated a superior knowledge of how to win and capture home court advantage.  Although it is still early in the series, and anything is possible, the Knicks demonstrated experience does have benifits at ‘Crunch Time’.

The Knicks were down 14 points in the third quarter.  The Spurs began their mistake filled down fall from the lead with … …. …   … turnovers and missed shots.

And,  before the Spurs woke up out of their mistakes filled slumber, New York made them pay by taking the lead of 8 points.  The Knickerbockers  never relinquished their advantage after that,  as the Spurs did manage to bounce back to a one point deficiency in the final two minutes.

Jalen Brunson  stabbed the dagger into their backs with clutch shots.

Always hit first, it hurts Less, announcer statement

4th quarter Recap,

Spurs had chances

The score was 93 to 94 with three/two minutes left , I forgot that fact …  .

end 105-95, ummm that’s a tough 2 minutes at the end of game,  …

June 4th, afternoon interview …  Victor Webamyama, location San Antonio TX / USA

Did anyone read the presentation and article:  Title: “Popovich  –  A Legend with Spurs On his Boots”  …  please read.  Here on this website, connect in blue box below …

I am almost finished,  90% complete, it takes me time,  it is just me (one -on-one) against this computer …  it takes time, too much so …  good night fellas .

(Humor intended here below) Question: Wemby, does Pop curse, swear, or use profanity in his text to you.  He should !  I would.  Just like Timmy got it, you would get it.   Cuzz   … Coach M doesn’t swear at you,  does he – to each his own, that’s ok too -.. getting  chewed up mentally by words  can sometimes help, … not always,  …  if Pop does, it means he likes and cares about you, maybe even loves you.

Gregg Popovich’s basketball journey began in Indiana, where he graduated from Merrillville High School in 1966 before attending the United States Air Force Academy.

Class, I have a few questions for you:

 1. Please, can anyone tell me  what was happening to the Air Force and West Point graduates in 1966?

2. Can  anyone ( any player) tell me what the word Viet-Nam.  [ (Vietnam) in (1996)] meant to American citizens?

Mr. Vic, ‘Frenchy,’ can you please tell me , and the entire class, what was the history between  France and Vietnam in 1966?

Thank you Mr. Vic … you get an apple.  Now eat dem apples tonight!

If you need help with these questions, please, just ask Coach Pop, he will explain.

If you read the article, I  venture to say,  you will learn a little something about the beloved Coach Pop, something you may not have previously been aware of … COMMITMENT.

Very nice class, nice work, the class is dismissed now.  So, let’s hit the gym, and play some basketball!

Report Topics: Julian Champagnie / Stephon’s Hair, Dylan’s Sister/ Coach Mitch’s Voice

REACTION TO:  interviews June 4 -2026, Thusday 20:30 EST / (Brooklyn Time –  Jewels – Eastern Standard Time, it is recorded from across the bridge …  in Manhattan – three A’s )

I only got one thing to say, to you Mr. Julian, and one question for you ?

Julian: ‘Butch Lee’ ,

… … check him out!

Question: How did you feel,  … what did you think about guarding Jalen Brunson?  honestly … … serious question.

… maybe,  ummm, just maybe a temporary quick schematic defensive move to change his brain,  … … just switch for a few plays,    keep him guessing … …  thinking just a little, I don’t know, it’s just an idea. ???  ideas are free … it might not do anything.

Mr. Stephon,  there isn’t anybody you can’t guard.   but switching can be a good thing… sometimes … just for a few plays …

Steph, you should  thank Coach Danny for that great defensive skill you have acquired,   … …well thank Danny’s Father, a NJ High School Hall of Fame Coach.

I do NOT know you at all Julian, nor do I know what heritage you have in those blood lines of yours,  but I know you got ‘ICE’ in those veins.  So freeze it up again tonight, freeze that jumper,  get it chilly for game 2. … … .

I also know, you got some NYC Butch Lee Park Game’ in you.  I just realized today, Butch Lee, yea… that is in your blood for sure. … … now I see it.

…. NYC (court talk) ya man, why didn’t you sink (make) the sixth shot?

This is a  John MacEnroe sports teaching remark, he is a NYC raised champion Tennis Player … … John would say, hey I made five shots in a row, and his parents would say, ok, but why did you miss the sixth shot.  (funny?)

Julian, I really am enjoying your game, and interviews.  It’s pleasant for me to hear you speak …  May I call you Jewels?

You are a JEWEL JuJu Jump Shooter, Julian. Keep on keepin’ on … get it cold … REMEMBER REVENGE IS BEST SERVED COLD!

Mr. Julian, … Tell me about the Greenwich Village outdoor court?  … Is it still there, Julian.

Joke:

Tell, Dylan, he ain’t from NY, (tease him)…. …  he’s all Jersey … he needs to go back to Jersey to play hoops, …Tell him he was ok at St. Johns, but at Ruckers summer league, well … … it is a make-it- take out door court ball game,  … … not that sissy Jersey stuff, …  in NYC baby boy, you must win or go home!  …. if you win, you take it … so take it, (game 2),  win stay on the outdoor court in Brooklyn, … lose and you must sit on the sidelines. … OR DRIVE ALL THE WAY BACK TO NEW JERSEY AFTER ONLY 1 game … if you  lose,   or, you got a  2 hour wait for the NEXT game.  Lots of good players waiting to play in  the  NYC parks!  I heard no more outdoor games, they are now inside all the gyms?

Question: Dylan did your sister tell you how to win the next game?  If she did, tell Coach Mitch what she said …. (humor intended)

YOU GUYS GOT  A GOOD VIBE on the interviews …

Bad news for you Mr. Stephon Cassel.

First I love Bob Marley.  I love his hair.  You have the most beautiful hair I have ever seen on the head of an NBA player. I like it.

The bad news, Mr. Stephon,   … you are going to be require to cut your hair, … yes, you are going to have to cut your hair!  When, at some time in the future.  Why, it is huge.  Not tomorrow, not next week, not next month.  But by next October your hair is going to be taller than the Empire State Build,  then you will not have a choice.  I must weigh 5 lbs now, it will be 10lbs by next season.

… You cannot play to the best of your ability with the Empire Sate Building on top of your head.   Man that is some impressive set of hair.   But, at some point in time,  your beautiful hair is going to grow into a tree,  it grows fast, since last October,  Fall it was not that long?  …  You are going to need to cut it at some time , ok,  maybe I am wrong, maybe you will be the first basketball player to play in the NBA with a tree on his head.  It isn’t stopping you from playing defense now.  ///???

I will play a Bob Marely music videos below , dedicated to Steph’s HAIR!

… … not sure what song .. is appropriate, I shall try a few.  found it, Let’s GEt Together, that  fits tonight.

Coach Mitchell, I worry about your voice!

You are Coach Bingo, Quick and Right On Point most often,

… that   figures, considering you’re from those ‘Point Guard’ days with  the Stanford University Indians, ooops ,  sorry,  my mistake, I mean Cardinal (no S, right?) ummm, the Stanford Cardnal nickname change was in 1972,  … it went from Indians to Cardinal,  I am just catching up now . ( humor intended)

Budget and conserve your voice, you are gonna need it before this is over, …  try honey and tea.

For Jules and Dylan,  both, …

Dedicated to Stephon Cassel, ” Let’s Get Together”, and fell all right, …. to fight … …. from me to you. listen, you might like it?

French Lessson … for me – I have many  questions for my new French teacher, Mr. Victor Wembanyama …  … Victor is now teaching every ‘crazy hoops kid’  in the entire World, French.  How about that …

Me too, but I am not a kid, just ha oops nuts and I enjoy language studies …. .  … , let’s see, first, thank you for the French lesson Victor.

My French is improving.  listening to you.   … my understanding compression level  is not very high, only about 20%,  but, it’s getting better due to you speaking French in your interviews.  … I enjoy the many lesson.  My German is much better … and other languages,   … but I want to speak and understand French.  It helps me when you speak slowly, like yesterday.

Great interview, right on man.  That’s it Victor … You are a quick study ‘Grasshooper’!

Exactly, you can only change little schematic adjustments in June.  You don;t re-bake the entire cake.

Maybe in a  day before a game walk through a little bigger adjustment change …

… or maybe at half time,  a  little adjustment.   But, you can’t change the way your team plays in June of an NBA season.silly, and why would you want to change …

Did you understand what that reporter was trying to do to your mind with his question? … … did you get it, he doesn’t like you!  Trying to screw with your mind after a loss.  Be more shielded with the playoff reporters.

Can’t install a new game plan , or trade all you guys for brand new playoff players.

Response:  If I could,  I might think about trading all of my team mates.  That’s what I should have said to that idiot reporter, just to jerk around with him.   ….    (humor intended).

… you couldn’t change ‘how (team and players) you can add old plays, you haven’t practiced in a while, toss in a play here and there, sometimes, a play,  even if EVERYONE wanted to change the wall paper, you leave it, …. ‘the way you play’

… not enough time …  AND WHY CHANGE WHAT WORKS.

If the cake is already baked, you can decide to change the frosting, but you can’t and shouldn’t change the cake.  Especially if it’s a masterpiece of cooking, let it stand, then Frost it!   The team is …  … …. . You are here at game 2 of the NBA Finals.  (2 minutes 4th quarter – game was tied.. gonna re-check that now,  in above video.)

D’accord

Everbody, together now, (yes let’s come together, i.e. Bob Marley style)  … let us say it together class ( team), D’accord.  Vic will help us with correct pronunciation.  Have some fun …  breathe ,   Don’t be shy Carter, out loud now,  … everybody ….  D’accord.   Good …  join in  Foxy, let me hear you.  Luke , would you like to come up front and help the class dance to it?

(If you can’t laugh at this, you are out of touch)

I saw Luke leading dances a few weeks ago during hallway team pregame wait,  … … how about a Dance-French-Salsa combined pregame  thing Luke, not sure what music will work, ???  It’s a private players thing.  I apologize, not my business.

But you guys made me laugh.

Go for it Luke,

NO CONCLUSION

Doctor Dunkenstein

Post game immediate reflection … a draft of thought    … … a free flow of ideas.

immediately upon game 1 conclusion.

Yes. the Spurs can win game two.

The players do not seem to understand how they got beat in game one.   That’s normal after a game, … that’s for coaches.  Players play.  It takes a few hours to even understand a game correctly as a player …right?

Game two is very important for the Spurs.

Coach what did you think about Carter?  You tried him on Jalen Brunson.

Brunson smelt blood in the water, attacked him 3 straight times … , but I thought Carter played ok on defense, what did you think?  … maybe I am wrong …

Few players can stop Jalen Brunson,   just gotta try to slow him down, somehow, I don’t know how,  left, right, he goes both ways, small fakes,

The one thing I do see in Brunson is that he is in constant dribble mode, or jab step mode, when he has the ball, always preparing to attack, but he waits, YES,  ok, he catches and shoots right after the catch too, but, if he doesn’t catch and shoot, … … then  he makes a move to test you first,   it’s a series of test , test, test, set you up, then score … as a defensive player reacts, he reacts,  he doesn’t often just attack the basket with the entire army at first,  he waits to see what you do, he comes at you next, then,  he sets you up, waits to see how you react to his initial moves, then he counter acts,  repeats it often, … before he shoots the ball, … he has an army of moves,  … gut kicks …  all over the floor, tons of moves,   that’s what I see   … … I have not watched him very much.  I don’t watch the Knicks … I just really don’t have any good ideas about how to slow him down, … …

,, ummm tough nut to crack, … yes he is a one – on -one , scoring machine, very very good offensively.  Is there anything the Spurs can do to make his life just a little more miserable ?  Yes, I just don’t know what that is … for Jalen,   maybe try to do something difficult for him when he plays defense?  …. just asking?

Can you slow him down, how??? I don’t know how,

Team Defense looked really good at times to me, best I’ve seen all year , longer spurts of consecutive good team defensive plays,   you only need seconds,  Just like a thoroughbred race horse,  just seconds between good and not so good.  .. It was good last night.

Turnovers, stupid ball give-UPS,   As they say WEMBY had a loose grip on ball, no handle, too many st lost opportunities Wemby

great play, great Free Throws …

All of this is without the benefit of film, ….

The San Antonio fun balloon just busted, can they fill another party balloon with a win in game 2, maybe …  … , I think yes …

Victor is positive.  His arm is very bruised and cut scratched.

Bingo, Mitchell just said it,

‘We ( the Spurs are going outside in, and they must go inside out.  Bingo, that is IT.

But , Coach Mitchell, you ndon’t have a player who has a single post move …   great players,  .. great defense tonight

\

WEMBY lost the ball way to many times, great free-throw shooting, …

the Spurs had the Knicks by the throat in the third, they couldn’t squeeze enought to choke the Knicks … …

16 assist, to low, umm, I did not notice that, sometimes stats tell you things you do not see

EVERYBODY sees only a part of every game.  You can not see everything, nobody can …

He thinks so +++, great Coach ++++Mitch, it’s a must win game two, he thinks they can win, I agree .

Yes, I know, Doctor Cricket Dunkenstein’s San Antonio game 1 SCOUTING report is very unconventional.  But it’s interesting, isn’t it?  You can’t look at diagrams of the court all day.   MY CONCLUSION , JUST PLAY.

OBJECTIVE: Written Humor today.  Attempt to make you laugh.

Time 04: 11

That’s 4 AM for those  Spurs  players , and staff, who might need help with ‘ Telling Time”  ….

does anyone need help tying your shoes, just raise your hand , …

good. looks like we got that covered,   … laugh, it is ok to laugh during the NBA Finals

if you must, laugh it’s funny,

But hear me out about that  tie your  shoes remark,  before you judge me, …, hear out this story.

A long time ago, Coach Dean Smith, the guy that coached MJ in college, taught MJ everything he knew about basketball until he was 23 years old, yes, that Dean Smith, …

Coach Smith spent 10 minutes explaining and demonstrating how I should tie my shoes properly, how to correctly lace up a pair of tennis shoes … he had me as a guest in his office, I was 13 years old, so,

… of course, I thought it was silly and somewhat  condencending,  it wasn’t at all.  Coach  gave those new laced up Converse shoes to my high school coach, sitting next to me watching Coach Smith’s demonstration of how to tie gym basketball shoes … When we got up to leave the office, Coach Smith without a word,  handed the laced up sneakers in a box  to my High School basketball coach. They just happened to be size 11,  … see, he was smart … back then, you could not give a player a gift, but you could  give  a teaching prop to a High School Coach working at his basketball School.  Always one step ahead, that was Coach.

…. take a guess what size of sneakers I wore to play basketball,  yeap,  you got it, size 11 !

…  and I always tied my shoes just as Coach Smith demonstrated on that day because it was more functional, stronger support. and improved my performance.

You just never know …

And what he was teaching me was a better, different and new method to tie my shoes  … it was 4 hours after I had met him …how did he know

BECAUSE, he saw my shoes in the gym when we met the first time …

ESP –

Jewels can you please explain this to everyone who doesn’t understand ….

Objective:  Today I am going to try to make someone laugh …

Ok, if this photo of you three goof bags doesn’t make you and everymenber on the team laugh, I don’t know how to do it..  You are a tough audience.

Tell me this is photo shopped,  signatures at the bottom?   really, its a rip off, right.  But its on YouTub ads?  funny

I THINK THIS IS FUNNY!!

It was on my phone this morning as a Youtube advertisement.

I got lots of humorous questions about it … hilarious!

FUNNY!

FUNNY!

I know this is a players only private thing, not a coaches thing, but Luke, what do you say about tonight before game 2,  loosen it up with a little more Salsa, maybe a little Samba?  … it is up to you guys,  …. just a suggestion.  I laughed about this …

Ok, …. you guys made me laugh with this one, months ago,

this is when I knew you had ENOUGH humor and fun to possibly  win a championship.

A team without humor, well it’s not much fun …

You are a tough audience. I will try this again  then, look 1 more time …

I THINK THIS IS FUNNY!!

Ok, ….  You are a tough audience. I will try this then, look below,

I THINK THIS IS FUNNY!!

Having a sense of humor, laughing can help you win.

I am not sure this applies to smiling in the middle of the game when some crazy lunatic runs out onto the active basketball court in order to take a selfie … H-E-L-L, I about peed my pants … I thought he had a weapon, until I figure out he wanted a selfie photo, and attention

t

doesn’t matter, What if, what if ….candy and nuts …

What is the story about the bat?

I remember seeing that, I think, this season, ummm?  …

This guy needs about 3 days in the county jail for this stunt, bad precedent, dangerous,    a big fine of $, … also … , he is lucky , I am not the judge, he was charge criminally with at least  misdemeanor, right?

In my opinion, this is not funny.

anyway, you handle it well with the press.  Still can’t figure why you were smiling.  Sense of fan invincibility/ ummm as Michael Jordan about that, be aware … , don’t be naive …  seriously …

Why is this video not removed from YouTube?  Spurs front office and organization, why is this video on YouTube?

Why was this young man’s telephone not immediately confiscated, a serious question for the San Antonio police?

Frost Bank security chief officer, what’s your name ,sir?

I ask these questions out of concern for the safety of the Spurs players and coaches?

Not important today, Game day.  Don’t let it happen tonight, PLEASE.

How did the Knicks win Game 1 of the finals?

The New York Knicks won Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 105–95, taking a 1–0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Their victory was defined by a significant second-half comeback and superior execution during “Crunch Time”.

Key factors in the Knicks’ Game 1 win included:

  • Overcoming a Large Deficit: The Knicks were trailing by 14 points in the third quarter before mounting a comeback. They capitalized on a “mistake filled downfall” by the Spurs, which included numerous turnovers and missed shots, to eventually take an 8-point lead.
  • Clutch Performance by Jalen Brunson: With the score tied at 94–94 and only three minutes remaining, Brunson “stabbed the dagger” into the Spurs with a series of clutch shots. He finished the game as a dominant “one-on-one, scoring machine,” using fakes and jab steps to systematically break down the Spurs’ defense.
  • Experience and Late-Game Execution: The sources emphasize that the Knicks demonstrated a “superior knowledge of how to win,” showing that experience provides a distinct advantage in high-pressure situations. While the Spurs managed to pull within one point in the final two minutes, they were unable to “cut the cake” at the correct time, whereas the Knicks closed the game on an 11–1 run.
  • Capitalizing on Spurs’ Mistakes: The Knicks took advantage of Victor Wembanyama’s ball-handling struggles; the report notes he “lost the ball way to many times” and had a “loose grip” on the basketball. Additionally, the Spurs’ offense was criticized for playing “outside in” rather than “inside out” and recording only 16 assists, which the Knicks exploited through their team defense.

By winning Game 1 on the road in San Antonio, the Knicks successfully captured home-court advantage for the remainder of the series.

What adjustments did Coach Mitchell Johnson suggest for Game 2?

Tell me more about Jalen Brunson’s clutch scoring performance.

How did Wembanyama’s ball-handling issues impact the Spurs’ lead?

What adjustments did Coach Mitchell Johnson suggest for Game 2?

Following Game 1, San Antonio Spurs Head Coach Mitchell Johnson identified one primary adjustment for Game 2: the team “must play inside out and not play outside in”,,.

The sources provide additional context regarding this suggested shift and the Coach’s philosophy on playoff adjustments:

  • Addressing Offensive Struggles: The Coach’s directive to play “inside out” likely addresses the team’s poor offensive flow in Game 1, where they recorded only 16 assists—a number the sources describe as “too low”,.
  • Limiting Changes: Coach Johnson believes that at this stage of the season (June), a team can only implement “little schematic adjustments” rather than installing an entirely new game plan,. He used a culinary metaphor to explain this, stating that while you can “change the frosting” (small tweaks), you should not “change the cake” (the core way the team plays),.
  • Optimism for Game 2: Despite the Game 1 loss, the Coach expressed confidence that the Spurs can win Game 2 and characterized it as a “must win” situation,.

The sources also mention that during Game 1, the Coach experimented with defensive personnel, such as trying Carter as a defender on Jalen Brunson, though Brunson was still able to score effectively against that matchup,.

What does Coach Johnson mean by “changing the frosting”?

How did Jalen Brunson perform in the clutch?

Tell me about Victor Wembanyama’s performance in Game 1.

What does Coach Johnson mean by “changing the frosting”?

Coach Mitchell Johnson uses the metaphor of “changing the frosting” to describe making small, tactical, or schematic adjustments to a team’s strategy during the NBA Finals,,,.

According to the sources, this concept is part of a larger philosophy regarding late-season coaching:

  • The “Cake” represents the core identity: By June, a team’s fundamental way of playing—the “cake”—is already “baked” and should not be changed,,. Coach Johnson believes it is “silly” to try to change the way a team plays at this stage of the season, especially if the team has reached the Finals,.
  • The “Frosting” represents minor tweaks: While you cannot “re-bake” the cake, you can choose to “change the frosting” by implementing “little schematic adjustments”,,,. These are small changes that can be made during a pre-game walkthrough or even at halftime,.
  • Limitation of major changes: The coach emphasizes that you cannot “install a new game plan” or trade for new players this late in the year,. Instead, coaches might “toss in a play here and there” that hasn’t been practiced in a while, but the overall “wall paper” of the team’s style remains the same,.

What does the cake represent in the Coach’s metaphor?

In Coach Mitchell Johnson’s metaphor, the “cake” represents the fundamental way the team plays.

The sources explain several key aspects of this representation:

  • Core Identity: The cake symbolizes the established system and style of play that the team has developed over the entire season.
  • Fixed Foundation: By the time the NBA Finals arrive in June, the cake is considered “already baked”. The coach believes it is “silly” to try and “re-bake” or change this foundation so late in the year because there is simply “not enough time”.
  • A “Masterpiece”: The coach views the team’s current state as a “masterpiece of cooking” that should be allowed to stand rather than be fundamentally altered.
  • Stability: Even if everyone involved wanted to “change the wallpaper” (the overall look or style), the core “way you play” must remain the same because that is what successfully brought the team to the Finals.

While the “cake” (the core playstyle) remains constant, the coach suggests that teams can still “change the frosting,” which refers to making little schematic adjustments or minor tactical tweaks.

What specifically did Jalen Brunson do during crunch time?

What specifically did Jalen Brunson do during crunch time?

During crunch time of Game 1, Jalen Brunson “stabbed the dagger” into the Spurs with a series of clutch shots that secured the Knicks’ victory.

Specifically, his performance was characterized by the following:

  • Exploiting Matchups: When the Spurs tried a defensive adjustment by putting Carter on him, Brunson “smelt blood in the water” and immediately attacked him three straight times.
  • Methodical Offensive Approach: He operated as a “one-on-one, scoring machine,” utilizing a “series of tests” to break down defenders. Rather than attacking the entire defense at once, he remained in “constant dribble mode” or “jab step mode,” waiting to see how the defender reacted to his initial moves before executing a counter-move.
  • Breaking the Tie: With the score tied 94–94 and approximately three minutes remaining, Brunson’s offensive surge was the catalyst for the Knicks’ closing run. By the end of the game, the Knicks had outscored the Spurs 11–1 in those final minutes to finish 105–95.
  • Utilizing Experience: The sources note that Brunson’s performance was a prime example of how “experience does have benefits at ‘Crunch Time’,” as he demonstrated a superior knowledge of how to close out a game on the road.

The scouting report describes his variety of moves as “gut kicks” all over the floor, noting that he is a “tough nut to crack” because he can go both left and right and uses small fakes to keep defenders off balance.

Julias Champagnie

Based on the sources, it appears you are referring to Julian Champagnie, whom the author nicknamed “Jewels” and the “JEWEL JuJu Jump Shooter“.

The scouting report highlights several aspects of his performance and character during the 2026 NBA Finals:

  • Defending Jalen Brunson: Julian was tasked with guarding Jalen Brunson in Game 1. The author suggests this might have been a “temporary quick schematic defensive move” intended to “change his [Brunson’s] brain” and keep him guessing.
  • “Ice” in His Veins: The author describes Champagnie as having “ICE in those veins” and encourages him to “freeze that jumper” and “get it chilly” for Game 2.
  • NYC Connections: The report draws a comparison between Champagnie’s style of play and the “NYC Butch Lee Park Game,” noting that this heritage seems to be in his “blood lines”. The author even asks him specifically about whether the Greenwich Village outdoor court is still there.
  • Professionalism: The author notes that it is “pleasant” to hear Julian speak during interviews and encourages him to “keep on keepin’ on”.

For Game 2, the author’s primary advice to Julian is to maintain his “cold” shooting and remember that “REVENGE IS BEST SERVED COLD!“.

Stephon Cassel Hair

According to the sources, the author of the scouting report, Doc Dunkenstein, has a lot to say about Stephon Cassel’s hair, describing it as the “most beautiful hair” he has ever seen on an NBA player,.

The author provides the following humorous observations and critiques regarding Cassel’s hair:

  • Bob Marley Comparison: The author expresses a love for Bob Marley and specifically compares Cassel’s hair to Marley’s style,.
  • Massive Size and Weight: The report jokingly claims the hair is “huge” and predicts it will be “taller than the Empire State Building” by next October,. The author estimates the hair currently weighs 5 lbs and will likely reach 10 lbs by next season,.
  • The “Tree” Metaphor: He suggests the hair is growing so fast it will eventually “grow into a tree” on Cassel’s head,.
  • Need for a Haircut: Despite admiring its beauty, the author delivers the “bad news” that Cassel will eventually be required to cut it,. He argues that Cassel cannot play to his full potential with “the Empire State Building” on top of his head, though he admits the hair “isn’t stopping [him] from playing defense now”,.
  • Musical Dedication: The author dedicated Bob Marley music videos, specifically the song “Let’s Get Together,” to Stephon and his hair,,,.

The connection between Butch Lee and Julian’s game includes the following:

  • NYC Basketball Heritage: The author identifies Julian as having some “NYC Butch Lee Park Game” in him, noting that this style is “in [his] blood for sure”,.
  • “Win or Go Home” Mentality: This “park game” is associated with the high-stakes culture of New York City outdoor courts (like those in Greenwich Village or Brooklyn), where players must “win or go home” and the winner stays on the court while the loser sits on the sidelines,.
  • Style of Play: The author describes Julian as a “JEWEL JuJu Jump Shooter” and tells him he has “ICE” in his veins, encouraging him to “freeze that jumper” for Game 2,.
  • A Call to Research: Despite seeing these similarities, the author suggests that Julian might not be fully aware of the connection, advising him to “check him [Butch Lee] out!”,.
