Title:  ‘The Big Red Defensive Wall’

Some basketball players love playing defense.  It provides a sense of empowerment and control over the opposing team.  It is a skill of no less importance than any other skill in the talent of a great basketball player.  Yet, it is almost never written about or spoken about in regards to the outcomes of basketball games.

It holds no glamour  advantage over high flying dunking basketball players, or swishing shots from beyond the arc.  But in reality it is much more important than dunks and deep three -s.

Unlike the fans and media, there has never been a successful high level basketball coach who did not respect the importance of defense.

It is difficult to teach and even more difficult to  implement into the play of a basketball team.  Yet even harder to get a team to maintain intensity to play defense throughout an entire game.  Any Coach that can accomplish this has a special ability.  Sean Sweney, ‘Big Red‘  appears to have an excellent ability to coach defense.

There are a few coaches that come to mind when reflecting on the great defensive coaches in the game.

Boston Celtics Coach ‘Red’ Auerbach , Bobby Knight of Indiana, Coach ‘K’ of Duke, Jerry ‘Tark The Shark ‘ Tarkanian, and Don Haskeins of UTEP , are just a few of the many legendary top defensive coaches of the game.

Players who love to play defense love to play for the likes of the above mentioned coaches.   They can motivate a player to run through a brick wall.

Sean Sweny has been pushing the San Antonio Spurs basketball players to run into his ‘Big Red Defensive Wall”.    A  defensive wall  that has carried to Spurs to the NBA finals ……

As an assistant basketball coach for the San Antonio Spurs, currently playing in the 2026 NBA finals.

Officially, and also by title, Coach Sweney is the Head Defensive Coach of the team.  The Spurs have been the best statistical defense in the 2026 regular season, and they have demonstrated some of the best defense to ever be played during the post season tournament.  Unfortunately these feats are not highly published.  Apparently someone in the Orlando Magic Basketball organization has taken notice that Sweney has the talent to coach defense well, as he has been hired to be Head Coach for the NBA team in the 2026-27 season.

Additional draft ideas & topics:  How did Coach Sweney deal with Victor Wembanyama as the center piece to the overall team defense?   …implementation … a first of its kind?,   … ..,. other examples which were used,  … other big men centrist defenses?

Date June 12, 2026

Title:   ‘You Can Lead A Horse To Water, But You Can’t Make Him Drink”

The coaching dilemma for all top defensive basketball coaches, … …  (i.e. ‘Big Red’)

Question: request response, as to you, how do you overcome this dilemma with players in general, Coach Sweney?

Question To:  ‘Big Red’

Questions To:  ‘Big Red’

Who designed this defensive play and strategy, on the last play of game 4.

What was the idea not to place a defender on the ball at a half-court entry play.

Who was assigned to block out the inbound player,

was it discussed in the huddle,

… … was it a mistake, ,,

… … and who aquired the idea from whom,   … …

and who let it be implemented during a timeout.

Boy, sure wish I had ears in the timeout huddle in the last seconds of game 4.

… … planning this defensive last play strategy.

Things don’t always go as planned, unfortunately.  For example, in the work of space travel.  this last minute defensive play in game 4 of the NBA Finals reminded me, of the case nobody anticipated and did not see coming, the Space Shuttle Columbia, this worked out in the same way in the end, as the last second defensive play in game.

The design engineers of the Columbia Shuttle were the best in the world.  It wasn’t a mistake free business. Either is coaching basketball.  But the important thing is not to repeat mistakes.

(35+39+29+35)  + whatever = disaster!

WHO DECIDED NOT TO GUARD THE INBOUND… WHO DID NOT BLOCK OFF?

Fact: Forgotten and not applied by Spurs staff.   More last second winning baskets are mad on rebounds than initial shots.  Remember that ever being taught?

Question To:  ‘Big Red’

What actually happened? Facinating learning and teaching moment,

what was planned,

what and how it went wrong,

only sideline coaches and players, well SOME players know, …um

media doesn’t know, I don’t know, I want to know,

Question: A seven year pro, point guard, with no idea what he did wrong.

I know from experience, and guarantee you, every point guard who has ever played for St. Thomas, MN understands this situation.

THE NEW AGE BRAIN THEORY

By: Doctor Dunkenstein

Draft June 13th

The new era of young coaches who believe they have re-invented the game are numerous in the NBA.. It would be difficult to argue that the way the game in the current day NBA is the same game played only a few years ago.

However, the new NBA coaches math is not a formula for success.

As we learned in our space program, if you are going to build rocket ships to travel to the Moon or Mars, all of those geniuses highly educated young  men and ( and women) of great scientific mind and engineering designthe old school Professors.

It still took three four (4) thirty years old space engineers with Doctorate degrees to equal the practical knowledge of an old professor of advanced age.

.. ….  the teaching only acquired from experience and the wisdom of age can not be replaced , nor duplicated.

This applies to the young under 40 NBA head coaches.

Nevertheless, anybody can get ‘out foxed’ and beaten on any given day.

The math applicable for the above theory.

[(35+35+35+35)

is actually less than 65,  by a lot ..]

Yes, this is the secret NBA math

Question: What did Coach Sweney do about this NY dirty type of game … his thoughts on playing against this ‘street ball tactics  /  his response / counter act/ Ideas, … his ideas would be very interesting to hear …  /  some great results, some not so great, … UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Warning!  Warning!    ….;
ALERT!
According to Knicks Head Coach, Mike Brown, “the referee(s) called too many fouls on his team, the NY Knickobocker (a.k.a. the NY Knicko-BOXERS)  ….. .. post game 3 quote.
REALLY!
… Is Coach Brown  talking about the New York Knick-a BOXERS?     ….  that team in the 2026 NBA Finals, that just lost game 3 in NYC –  that he coaches  – and that basketball team  which has played like  ….  Mike Tyson on the basketball court.  tossing in some WWE and UFC style basketball play.Strange to hear the head of the bully team complain about being bullied.
Yes, Coach Brown is taking about — These New York Knickaboxers , the, kicking, slapping, jump in front of you – after a scored basket , hair pulling, flopping, bitching on every shot, fake charge taking, arm hooking,  guys who toss in a litle Kung-fu arm grab and jab,  …. and kick moves, ankle tripping,  pull you down on top of them, in order to get a foul called on you, no, Coach Brown couldn’t actually be talking about those poor Knick players,  Sorry, that is what Coach is saying,  …
These guys?  EVERYBODY who has watched these games in the entire World, except NY Knick fans, can see how these poor Knicka-BOXERS are not getting calls from the refs.  At first, it sounded like a prank.
No they aren’t strong arming, they are playing inside the rules as they have tried to stop Wembanyama, ( OKC did the same thing, ), it is inside the rules to use with every dirty little New York City Park ball trick in the book.
That guy, the watch me fall –  give me a call guys refs,  or else I will embarrass you on Global TV, Jalen Brunson,  and his baby crying father, is running full court –  92 feet – to stand up for poor Brunson.
Jalen Brunson looks to be getting his far share of licks in during all three ga , as he  tackles, and play act charges in to people, , or his jump in front is his best move, isn’t it.
… so sit down, please …
And ‘Pops’ Brunson, you are an assistant coach, not the head coach, so be glad you haven’t been ejected from a game,  and, please,  don’t run full court to intimidate the refs … anymor.
One Question Coach Brown: what game are you watching?

QUESTION / Opinion / suggestion ONLY / idea for thought / small things add up in the Finals /

If I were  Mitchell Chase Johnson, and the NYC Media should be happy I am not Coach Mitch, every time they ask me a silly question – – which is often – and he ALWAYS politely responds – – I would smile and just say,

Yes, WE (The Spurs) just need to Put The Lime In the Coconut.

Why is Coach Mitch always attempting to debate his decisions and prove something to the media during NBA playoffs?

Ok, regular season, perhaps, I understand.

Isn’t your time better spent then try to teach ‘Spurs’ Basketball to an Internation media core,  an obnoxious national media, lead by real jerks from the NYC media.

Question: aren’t you busy …

They are Lucky ‘Pop’, well that’s probably why Coach Mitch is extra careful not to offend the media , and insult their ‘safe space’.  I understand …

they are Lucky it Coach Mitch answering questions,,

IS IT helpful to winning an NBA Championship, I don’t know? what’s Pop say,…???

Zen Basketball Rereport Date – June 5, 2026

Time: 23:59

Location:  Frost Bank Center  / San Antonio, Texas, USA

Score:
Spurs 104
Knicks 105
2026 NBA Finals
A GAME 2

I got the score wrong.  … it does not matter that herewithin I reported the final score of the game covered incorrectly as being 101 to 102.

The only important fact is that the team that won this game had one single point more than the San Antonio Spurs.

Note: I do not know the score of any basketball game I ever played in, can’t remember a single score.  But,  I always knew, at every minute of every game, the point spread, difference, , the point difference of score between the teams,  … that is the only  thing IMPORTANT !

After four decades, I still remember those five points of  separation on the score board in that devastating game loss in Salt Lake City.

THE POINT SPREAD (difference,  this determines things which a basketball player needs to know about during the game,  this determines what he should do, and  the way to play, …right?  The score and the clock, that’s all folks.

A basketball player doesn’t play the same way when his team is ahead in the score by 30 points , compared to if the team is  ahead by 3 points , not matter how much time remains on the clock.  so spread first, clock second …

Coaching Question  ..

to Spurs staff/ suggestion

I would have waited at the Locker room entrance to ask the following question,  or d.

In  a private one-on -one , player Coach whispering meeting in a quick verbal  exchange …

… … or, I would ask the following question at the very first chance the next morning … … … … .

Wait until everybody is finished crying, showered, and the pain has subsided.  [ Ya know, wait for clear air, immediately,  just after another nervous breakdown of  the 10,000 nervous breakdowns a basketball has … has subsided. (Music Play Lit: Rolling Stone, Song: 10k -th Nervous Breakdown) … .. … .]

Then ask,  floor plaers

Ask every player,  Step, X, Y,Z, “how much time was on the clock when Victor decided to be Isiah Thomas and dribble up the court, the he decided to be John Stockton , the NBA all time assist leader, and pass the pall.  (humor intended) …

Question: ask quietly in privateto,  (each player – individually), tell me (the coach) , did you know the score was tied, and how much time was on the clock when Vic was undecided on being John Stockton or Isiah Thomas, you knew  the score was tied, right, and of course did you.

Then what was the standard team TIMEOUT policy,  please don’t tell me , it was not pre-establish and practices as a walk through 5 dozen times in the regular season ,,, please tell me the team situation policy for the Spurs is not, HEY< EVERYBODY< LOOK AT ME IN THIS SITUATION< 9of mass confusion and pressure) , Hey lock at me Coach Mitch, if you see me waving my hands on the sidelines then tawt means no time oot,  if I am sticking my finger in my nose, as Coach on the sideline, that means, time out, … please tell me this is a ‘LOOK AT THE COACH ON THE SIDELINE POLICY END OF GAME PROCEDURE.

Oh no, it was… yes NBA coaches standing on the sidelines jumping around, living vicariously through the players.  Umm that is policy with many NBA coaching staffs.  They self importance … BIG MISTAKR was this situation should have been trained into the players like they were command German Shepard attack dogs, from the date of Ocober 2025.

{Ask me about the Zen Master , chair sit}

Do you understand the point being expressed herewithin this paragraph in this report?

RIGHT,  how about the clock, yes

…  point spread and clock time

NEED both automatically in your head, not always exact,  but it should be generally close to automatic clock in your  …  Tim e remaining.  Have you ever practiced this ‘the Coach Clipboard’?

POLICY STANDARD TRAINED LIKE A DOG into all players in the …  head, with the point difference and the possible time difference  …what is the policy.  Not what the coaching hand wave from a chaotic sideline establishes what the team on the floor in this situation, SHOULD< COULD< MIGHT< MAYBE DO!

Immediate Quote of Victor Wembanyama, in post game interview room:

” I played 40 minutes, (Victor said ), I don’t know, I have to go back and look at it, …. score of a game in which he is participating … … … .. .. .. “

Well, we should discuss this, no stress … discuss it over hot dogs and cola in August,  not a topic for now … … perhaps a chat session in August, not now, “For Goodness Sakes”.

….  unfortunately good players often remember the amount of points they  lost by in the most important games … a lot of games,

I remember those spreads.  …. I know the San Antonio Spurs lost by * 1 point

…,   da da da, ne (1) point last night. … 101 -102   —- 105 t0 104, it does not matter,  that one (1) single point does matter !

Upset, why, both you players, coaches, staff, and even myself, NOW,  are going to remember that fact for many years after thw world forgets.  Spurs beat by 1 point  on June 6, 2026 against  NYC Knicks, in Frost Bank Center.

Put it in the back of your mind for now, subconsciously put it in the back of your brain,

it should help subconsciously motivate you Monday …

After Game Immediate Remarks

Good:  it’s over, move on, 1000x possibility, move on game 3, looks like June 7th, everybody has moved way ahead, Great team looking shoot around … lots of smiles,

smiles and swishes on the court inside Madison Garden, Sunday afternoon … June 8th, 2026 …charge ahead, troops, storm the gate, WIN game 3.

After Game Immediate Remarks

The 16 year old conquering  warrior ;;;

‘Alexander The Great’

Alexander III of Macedon (Ancient Greek: Ἀλέξανδρος, romanized: Aléxandros; 20/21 July 356 BC – 10/11 June 323 BC), most commonly known as Alexander the Great,  was king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon.

He succeeded his father Philip II to the throne in 336 BC at the age of 20, and spent most of his reign conducting a lengthy military campaign throughout Asia and Egypt. By the age of 30, he had created one of the largest empires in history, stretching from Greece to northwestern India.

He was undefeated in battle and is widely considered to be one of history’s greatest and most successful military commanders.

Everyone thought he was too young to be the ruler …

Everybody thinks the San Antonio Spurs and Victor Wembanyama ARE TOO YOUNG …to do what?

Doctor Cricket Dunkenstein is NOT everybody …  the Spurs are inow playing n game 3 and four of the 2026 NBA Finals.  They don’t need  to provide their identification cards to validate thier age at the door of Madison Square Garden in order  to be permitted to enter the gates and play basketball, now do they.

After 2026 NBA Finals Game In Lockerroom Hallway

Game 2 /

Title:  “I Went Numb!”

‘On You good in press interview, June 7th …r Knees In Tears’ /

Victor vibe …

I wasn’t the player who toss that ball into the back of my teammate, so I didn’t cry.  However, I went numb for a few hours.

I wasn’t the one who took a fifteen foot jump shot as the last shot of the game, and then fell backward on his butt to the floor  —  .  not the fundamental way taught to shoot a jump shot.  Not the way you shoot a jump shot most of the time, especially the last chance to win

However, I went numb after the game,

I wasn’t on the basketball court with 10 seconds left in the game,

like the the four other pwere layers, other than Victor, who somewhere out in Pluto land, but not tuned in to being in game 2, NYC.

… …  and DID NOT PUT EYES ON THE BASKETBALL, as  they ran down the court!   No I wasn’t one of these guys.  nevertheless, I  … went numb after game 2 of the NBA Finals.

one of those four guys for 5 to sick seconds before Victor hit   Stephon in then back, were hesitant, without a plan, timeout, …o stop, lost on right side of floor, …

.  But, I took went numb after the game was complet.

I wasn’t Stephon Castle  , who had no freaking idea where the ball was when it hit him in the back.  Thus,  allowing Jalen Brunson to get the ball, and win the game!.  Nevertheless, I went numb after the game.

I was’t the five guess who ran a bad entry play n with weak screens and poor execution with only 7 seconds left on the clock.  (Almost got a 5 second entry violation on that play).. but I went numb.

I was not slow getting to the ball on the last play like Foxy and everybody else,  was on the last play.  But I went numb after the game.

I was NOT ‘Foxy D’, the point guard who stood dribbling seconds away on the clock, thus not providing enough time for a second shot in the last 7 seconds of the game.

Which, by the way, – was it Stephon Castle – who got his hands on the ball – after the clock ran out. What is D’Aaron – with two A’s –   ran earlier by 2 seconds, instead of …

But I gasp for air when I saw it, and went numb for hours after the buzzer sounded,

I was the player …. making lots of mistakes.

I was NOT the coaches on the bench who did not design a strong end of the game play.  Or alternatively did not have the play practiced so many times in the regular season that the players should not hesitate , as they all did, and the coaches should know the players CAN run 5 end of the game played with there eyes closed.  Seriously, have you ever walked though an end of the game play and have the players blindfolded.  I have. It works, then everybody has it in the brain, they know what everybody else should do.

… that wasn’t me as one of the coaching staff, who did not have the end of the game play prep right, … But I saw it unfold.  It still sticks in my head, I watched it once, 54 times, I got out memorized, how about you, is it in your memory.   It is in my head, so, it made me numb.

I am not a 7’5 guy trying to win a game from 20 ft from the rim , instead of at the rim … .. anyway, that thought makes me numb …     … … lots of times, in all the games. ..

YES I WENT NUMB.

BUT I WAS ONE OF THOSE HARD FIGHTING _ NEVER GIVE UP COME FROM !$ BACK < FIGHT LIKE HELL SPURS PLAYERS ….But I know what that takes too .

I know everything below is about the fight ahead …

Win On Monday.  Yes win

Forget EVERYTHING about game two,  it’s in your subconscious memory, flow forwards. Win, play again, same energy, less mistakes, simple …

… … brain power improves daily …

I AM NOT GOING NUMB ANY MORE ..
