A TEXAS RODEO ROAD TRIP
The First ‘REAL’ Test for the 2026 San Antonio Spurs!
Date: Feb. 2026
Title: A Texas Rodeo Road Trip
Written by: Mr. Fat Hat & Doctor Dunkenstein
Every year the San Antonio Spurs are forced out of their home court arena by a Texas Rodeo. As real Texas cow roping, buck riding Cowboys entertain full house crowds in the Frost Bank Center in this annual event, the Spurs ‘ are put, ‘On the Road Again’ , as Texas legend, Willie Nelson, famously sang.
This long NBA road trip to play the Eastern Conference teams and the games scheduled in Austin Texas is the first ‘REAL’ test for the Spurs! It’s a test to see how far the team has advanced in its pursuit of an NBA Championship. There were significant signs of improvement from the previous two NBA seasons. The 2026 Texas Rodeo Road Trip was going to be a real indication as to just how good the basketball team was at winning games, difficult road games.
The Victor Wembanya lead San Antonio Spurs had spent the last few years trying to build a team that could win an NBA title. The organization had done it five times before, they were trying to do it again.
The center piece to the build was the young phenom Wembanyama, selected first overall in the 2023 NBA .
The 2024 Pursuit of The NBA Championship
At the end of the 2024 season the San Antonio Spurs were 22 – 60. The Spurs did not make the NBA postseason playoffs. Despite the disappointment of the season, it left some hope as Wembanyama was named the NBA Rookie of The Year.
Any of the optimism of the 2024-25 NBA season that the Spurs might be on the right path to building a sixth NBA Championship team was curtailed by a head coaching change and serious injuries to Victor Wembanyama. He played in only 46 games and the Spurs once again missed the NBA post-season tournament with a losing record of 34-48. Wembanyama- was sidelined with a serious career threatening injury for the last three months of the season and completed only half of the games.
Head Coach, Gregg Popovich had suffered a career ending stroke. Many things at the end of the 2025 season placed obstacles for the basketball organization and planes for a sixth NBA Championship.
The 2025 Pursuit of The NBA Championship
During the 46 games of the 2024-25 season which Victor Wembanyama participated in, the Spurs had a losing record of 21 – 25. Thus, caution and tampered expectations were applied to the 2025-26 season.
Unexpected and unpredictable issues were also surrounding the team as long time Hall of Fame Coach, Gregg Popovich had suffered a career ending stroke and young Mitchel C. Johnson was elevated to the head coaching position. The issue of how Wembayama would recover from his ‘Deep Vein Thrombosis’ injury which sidelined him for most of the previous season lumed. How this would affect Wembanyama’s play was unknown. How the team would fair and play during the 2025-26 NBA season was surrounded by unanswered questions.
On February 10, 2026 season record:
Finished the last 30 games with 26 – 4 record.
Final record 2025-26 Season Record: 62 – 20
In January of 2026 the spurs had an 8 – 7 record.
Then, in February of 2026, something clicked within the San Antonio Spurs, they were undefeated with an 11-0 record.
In March they lost only two games, one game to the New York Knicks – on March 1st, during the Texas Rodeo Road Trip – and the other game to the 2025 NBA Champion Denver Nuggets.
Something had changed for the San Antonio Spurs by the middle of season. They were undoubtedly a much better basketball team. Yet, just how good of a basketball team the spurs
In February and March of 2026 the San Antonio Spursy lost only two games. Everyone took notice of an improved basketball team and began discussions on their post season prospects in the NBA tournament.
The 2026 annual mid-season ‘Texas Rodeo Road Trip’ was the first strong indication as to how far the organization had progressed in its endeavor to win the NBA championship trophy.
Phil Jackson, A 13 TIME NBA CHAMPION, has a measurement rule for championship mid season progress. It ‘s the 40/20 rule is a famous NBA regular-season benchmark stating that a legitimate championship contender must win 40 games before accumulating 20 losses. It essentially requires teams to sustain a 67% win percentage over the first 60 games of the season to prove they have true championship pedigree.
If the 2026 San Antonio spurs reach the 67% win level by the 6o game completion mark, the WembanyamaOnline.com project will go foward in the creation of a season long basketball presentation website.
After the team returned from the successful ‘Rodeo Road Trip’, the Frost Bank arena was full of excited Spur fans yelling Go Spurs Go! The team was gathering at mid-court after wins to share in the traditional pounding of the drum. The young Spurs were still riding that Texas Bull and would hold on to the reigns until the 2026 NBA finals.
The 2026 Pursuit of The NBA Championship
The Spurs are on track, the Texas Road Trip proved they are strong enough to win on the road, a very important element to playoff championship basketball.
The question at hand is can the 2026 San Antonio Spurs NBA basketball team win a Championship.
We remain optimistic about the team’s improvement … we search for more indications as to just how far they have progressed in their pursuit.

The French colonizers … and the Indian Nation. 20 of the first 27 French colonizers died in the first Winter. Dress warm, … … add an extra hoodie boys … cover head, no outside wet hair, (it’s cold)
Good work #41. Everybody gets an extra ice bag for the road trip to the ‘Great White North’.
Truck, nice work, you played like a full back with a quarterbacks touch from the line (except the first 3 pointer was not pretty). Nice defensive work by the ‘Bob Marley’ Twins. Steph told me what type of gum he was chewing. You know you are doin’ the right thing when he gets pissed and pushes you to the ground. Foxy, ok, but you looked little timid to jump into that brawl. And Victor, you need Rick Majerus, (ask Doc Rivers about Rick). Your footwork is not good, and your balance needs work! give me 7 days, and in 30 days, I’ld have those big ‘feetsies of yours’ functioning correctly and that ass of yours lower to the ground, making it more difficult to put you on the floor … also, you need one post move, (baby jump hook, both hands to the middle) .
… … but you never have been taught “how” to get that into your feet, ass, and, your stance, (footwork) , only a few can teach it correctly, Majerus was the best, but he is dead. Most guys in the USA don’t know how they learned it, … … … …
Anyway … … … keep on keeping on, you are on a good war path Indians … day-by-day.. Chief Mitch can lead you into battle …
Tina Turner:
Survived the physical abuse and beatings of her ‘deranged’ violent husband Ikke Tuner. She was afraid that leaving him would end her career. She was wrong to think that was the case. Finally, after dumping Ikke, Tina produced the song: ‘Nut Bush City Limits’, #1 in Australia, #4 In Great Britain, #10 on the USA chart hit list. She filled stadiums for years beyond her days of enduring abuse.
Hey it’s Willie, guys. I got the Music set up for ‘The Motor City”!
I gotta go with Bob Seager , or Mowtown … I’m thinkin’ to combine the two. Go with the great Motown Tina Turner Song: ‘Nut Bush City Limits’, then, re-done live in Detroit by Bob, now that was Motown jammin’!
Yea, Nut Bush City Limits! Watch out for the P-O-LICE, better keep an eye … … .. …
Yeap fellas, it’s Doc, they sent me ahead to scout the Detroit Pistons. I’ll post my report tomorrow. First, do that dance thing again tonight in Austin Texas.
Let me tell ya, man, those Pistons are good, man, really. G-O-O-D! They are goin’ to kick your butt, UNLESS: #1: You stop them from OFFENSIVE rebounds.
(2)Gotta get all five of you hit the ‘D’ Boards, … no cherry pickin’ in Detroit allowed … … (3) gotta block ’em out on every shot. (4) Gotta win on the boards.
(5) Can’t have a mistake, filled, high turnover night in Detroit. Those Pistons know how to cash in on mistakes.
(6) Somehow, you need to slow down, Caden and Jalen. Both! Not easy to do …
I suggest, you try to limit Caden’s touches, before he gets the ball. Hard to do, let me know ‘what kinda-gum he is chewing’, I want to know his gum flavor by half-time … , get face-to-face , uptight close when he doesn’t have the ball. Try, deny, deny, and deny him. Of course, that means less help, so everybody else needs to help, help. And no second shots.
Jalen is all inside … 63% , Field Goal Percentage , all inside, gotta keep him off the boards, You gotta, play great between the lines,
Victor, get your footwork right, on Defense, think all those block second, stop first, think about guarding the inside guy, then do that block thing , defense first, footwork , then block, … and everybody BLOCK OUT!
The Pistons don’t win from shooting it from ‘downtown’, they win by pounding you inside on the boards, in ‘DOWNTOWN DETROIT”
That’s my Detroit Pistons scouting report. Boy those Pistons are tough cookies, no sissy boys on this Pistons team! Get your big boy pants on! …

TEXAS LESSONS: CULTURE – MUSIC & ART
BELOWWillie Nelson: A Martial Arts Master - Life In Good & Bad Times Master
Nelson attended Abbott High School, where he was a halfback on the football team, guard on the basketball team, and shortstop in baseball.
His mother left soon after he was born, and his father remarried and also moved away, leaving Nelson and his sister Bobbie to be raised by their grandparents,
Willie Hugh Nelson was born in Abbott, Texas, on April 29, 1933, to Ira Doyle Nelson and Myrle Marie … … Nelson traces his genealogy to the American Revolutionary War,
His parents moved to Texas from Arkansas in 1929 to look for work.
He wrote his first song at age seven, ….
…. and when he was nine, he played guitar for local band Bohemian Polka
During the summer, the Nelson family picked cotton … earned money by singing in dance halls, taverns, and honky tonks from age 13, which he continued through high school.
His musical influences were Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Lefty Frizzell, Ray Price, Ernest Tubb, Hank Snow, Django Reinhardt, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Armstrong.

Playing team disc jockey on the rodeo trip will be Willie Nelson … Oscar is gonna toss in some tunes later … … Put me in the game, Coach!
Spurs 135 – Lakers 108 …. 108 really, explain how they broke 100, please explain to me, I’m just a cricket …… ok, forget that. Important is Stephan , ok, he walked into locker room, ?
If you are ok, listen up, // Anyway Steph nice effort, hustle is a good thing ….
…. but being stubborn can make a man stupid, and, at times, injured, on the basketball court. (Ask me about my 45 years record of personal fouls, yeap, … still standing, … ) .. Hope everyone is healthy. All knife fights (games) can be dangerous. Even warm-ups games against the JV team ….
We made an executive decision mid -way into the 3rd quarter. In order to maintain our audience viewership and to avoid the boredom, we switched the broadcast program to a more defensive minded competitive game, the 2018 NBA all star game. which was 148 points to 145 points, one of the great defensive top battles of all time.
They call me “Midnight Cricket because I am a late night owl, awake and ready late into the night. But that was a snoozer for me … Honestly, I fell asleep in the 4th quarter ….
You are suppose to beat the Junior Varsity Team by lots of points, but who said you get to be sloppy … … … Man, coach Mitch should have put me in the game. I got Moves’ Coach, I can score in these blow out type of games … “Put Me In Coach”! … … Put Oscar in the game.
James Worthy …. …. … ask me about fog Worthy, (fog glasses) … … … he is a really nice person … loved his weed … … a H-e-l-l of a basketball player!
Robert Horry, ‘the dime dropper’ … … everything, no Robert, … He did NOT DO EVERYTHING, Reakky really … TV sales are important … … TV won’t put your mind on a championship path, Victor. Caution advised.
Playing team disc jockey on the rodeo trip will be Willie Nelson …
The Date: February 9,2026 (A.D). Next week will mark the mid-season All-star break. This is a welcome break to all players and teams in the NBA. This highly anticipated will not provide relief to the Spurs.

Four wins behind the 2025 World (NBA) Champion first place Oklahoma Thunder – who the Spurs have already beaten three (maybe four?) times this season – and the Spurs are currently tied in total wins with the Nikola Jokic led 2023 NBA Champions Denver Nuggets. … … leading a generation of players that are storming the gates
Wembanyama and the 2026 Spurs Championship Pursuit
The provided text outlines the content and purpose of WembanyamaOnline.com, a comprehensive digital platform dedicated to the career of NBA star Victor Wembanyama. Created by contributors known as Mr. Fat Hat and Doctor Dunkenstein, the site chronicles the San Antonio Spurs’ hypothetical 2025-26 season, tracking their journey to the NBA Finals. The sources blend historical basketball research, such as the sport’s origins in France, with modern analysis and fictionalized scouting reports. Beyond commentary, the site functions as a memorabilia marketplace and a repository for podcasts and educational lessons about legendary players. Ultimately, the project is designed as a global historical archive intended for the player himself and fans of the game.
How did the 2026 Spurs perform on their road trip?
- Win-Loss Record: By the completion of the road trip on February 16, 2026, the Spurs had improved their record to 38 wins and 16 losses.
- Championship Benchmark: The team’s performance during this period put them on track to meet Phil Jackson’s “40/20 rule,” which requires a contender to win 40 games before accumulating 20 losses. The Spurs reached this 40-win milestone on February 21, 2026, following a victory over the Sacramento Kings.
- Noteworthy Victories: During the February stretch associated with the trip, the Spurs secured significant wins against the Los Angeles Lakers (136–108), the Golden State Warriors (126–113), and the Phoenix Suns (121–94).
- Western Conference Standing: Their performance solidified their position at the “big boy table,” holding second place in the Western Conference, just behind the Oklahoma City Thunder and ahead of the Denver Nuggets.
What is the Phil Jackson 40/20 championship measurement rule?
- Performance Standard: It requires a team to sustain a 67% win percentage over the first 60 games of the season.
- Significance: Reaching this milestone is viewed as proof that a team possesses “true championship pedigree”.
- Predictive Value: The rule is intended to identify mid-season progress and playoff potential.
How many wins did the Spurs finish with in 2026?
- First Round: They defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 4–1.
- Conference Semifinals: They won their series against the Minnesota Timberwolves 4–2.
- Western Conference Finals: They secured a 4–3 series victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
What was the result of the Western Conference Finals?
- Game 1: Spurs won 122–115 in double overtime (2OT).
- Game 2: Thunder won 122–113.
- Game 3: Thunder won 123–108.
- Game 4: Spurs won 103–82.
- Game 5: Thunder won 127–114.
- Game 6: Spurs won 118–91.
- Game 7: Spurs secured the series with a 111–103 victory.
Why is WembanyamaOnline.com created
- A “Gift” for Victor: The site is written specifically to Victor Wembanyama as an “intended audience of one,” with the plan to give the completed project to him to do with as he wishes.
- Historical Preservation: A major goal is to ensure that historical perspectives and information regarding Wembanyama and the game are preserved online for future generations to learn from.
- Deep Research: The platform explores the roots of basketball in both France and the United States, including Wembanyama’s family ties to the game’s origins in France and the deep historical connections of the Spurs’ coaching staff.
- Documentation of the 2026 Journey: It serves as a real-time analysis and record of the Spurs’ “wonderful season” as they pursued the 2026 NBA Championship.
Who are Mr. Fat Hat and Doctor Dunkenstein?
- Role as Teacher and Scout: He is the primary figure for the site’s educational content, providing “Basketball Lessons” and “Zen Basketball Reports”. He acts as a scout for the team, providing detailed reports on upcoming opponents like the Detroit Pistons.
- The “Midnight Cricket”: He is nicknamed the “Midnight Cricket” because he is a “late night owl” who stays awake late into the night.
- Direct Mentor to Wembanyama: He speaks directly to Victor Wembanyama in his writing, offering “top secret information” and unconventional advice, such as recommending that Wembanyama carry a cowboy hat on road trips as a “secret weapon”.
- Background: He claims to have a 45-year record of personal fouls and frequently asks coaches to “put me in the game,” asserting that he still has “moves”.
- Primary Writer: The vast majority of the articles, historical biographies, and game updates on the website are attributed to Mr. Fat Hat.
- Executive Decision-Maker: He is portrayed as the one making “executive decisions” regarding the site’s coverage. For example, he noted switching a game broadcast mid-way through a third quarter to a more competitive historic game to avoid audience boredom.
- Collectibles Connection: The contact information for the project is linked to
fathatcollectibles.com, suggesting a connection to the “Wemby Collectibles Central” portion of the site.
Tell me more about Doctor Dunkenstein’s ‘Zen Basketball Lessons’.
- Fundamental Training: In his writings, Doctor Dunkenstein critiques Victor’s footwork and balance, suggesting he needs a trainer like the late Rick Majerus to learn how to keep his “ass lower to the ground” to avoid being pushed over. He also emphasizes the need for a reliable post move, specifically a “baby jump hook” using both hands.
- Specific Game Strategies: In his Detroit Pistons scouting report, he outlines a six-point plan for victory, focusing on blocking out for rebounds, limiting turnovers, and “denying” the ball to players like Caden (Cade Cunningham).
